“God’s grace is sufficient for me, for His power is made perfect in my weakness.” (II Corinthians 12:9)
After going through the most recent episode of health crisis, I cannot find enough words to express my gratefulness for His mercy and love. 2014 was an eventful year for us. Our youngest son Jeffrey’s wedding was set for 22nd June, 2014. Due to Jeffrey’s and his bride’s work schedule, both could only have that week off as their vacation. They both work in San Diego, so their wedding location was also set in San Diego. My family planned to leave a week early for San Diego so that we would have enough time to get last-minute things prepared.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until ten days before our son’s wedding. Yes, exactly ten days before the wedding, I was admitted into ICU because of my continuous bleeding. First thing the doctor did was to reverse my blood thinner medication due to my mechanical valve. After spending two days for my internal tests, the doctors suspected colon cancer. The result was confirmed the next day around 2:00 pm and I was wheeled into the operation room at 5:30 pm that same afternoon. When I woke up around 10 pm, the children were all there with me. The surgeon told us that the operation was very successful, but he would not be able to know the exact result until the lab test came back in a couple of days. In total, they transfused five pints of blood into my system. For those seven days in the hospital, I did not have any intake of food. After the operation, I stayed for two more days until I passed gas, then I was released to go home to attend Jeffrey’s wedding in San Diego. Every step went like lightning. There was no time to be scared or worried. A couple of days later, the doctor called and announced that I am now cancer free, no chemo is needed. Praise the Lord!
“God performs wonders that cannot be measured, miracles that cannot be counted.” (Job 5:9)
In hindsight, we know that only God could have orchestrated everything. God answers our prayers! Nothing is impossible with God, so why worry? In the wedding pictures, no one could tell that I had just gone through a major surgery a week prior. My recovery was unbelievably fast. Although I was weak, I could walk by myself, take care of myself and travel for 10 hours in car only a couple of days after a major surgery. If not for God’s grace and miraculous strength, do you think this is possible?
God also prepared the most suitable colon specialist surgeon for me even though some other doctor was scheduled to perform the surgery. God takes good care of me all these years. Praise God that He always intercedes for us! Quite a few medical friends jokingly asked me if I am related to the CEO of the hospital who can make things go so smoothly and so speedily! The truth is, I am related to the CEO of the Universe!
