Missions at CGBC have become an enduring spiritual heritage as a result of the legacy model by its many predecessors. Certainly many of our own have heeded the call to follow the great commission throughout the world. Still others at home continue to teach and model their mission passion. It is the hope and deep aspiration of the current all church mission committee to perpetuate this theme seen throughout scripture.
What were once three separate mission’s committees, the English, Cantonese and Mandarin, each representing their own congregation, has now become one all-church entity to co-labor together and merge our efforts for a common focus. It is a new approach, and a new way to address the purpose of our mission’s goals. To be sure, it will take time and patience to redefine our common core values together and form new working guidelines going forward. These are exciting times for us all to wait upon the Lord in prayer and understanding. As Jesus is our example, we will be servants together for His honor and glory.
In our church family, you can witness our reaching out in the various short-term mission outreaches, i.e., Mexico, Ecuador, Asia, Taiwan, Midwest outreach and others. Further our understanding of the kingdom expansion of God is being taught in our Sunday School classes, Youth Ministries, special guest speakers, mission’s emphasis seminars, Perspectives and Kingdom Expansion classes, etc. Other churches have also come along side and joined us in our efforts. These are exciting times for our church family and for our mission committee in particular, as we trust Him for the future.
Some of the areas of emphasis that the committee is now focusing on are:
1. Understanding the best approach to encourage our church family to all be participants in kingdom outreach.
2. Making sure our mission’s statement accurately portrays our mission aspirations.
3. Putting together guidelines that will help us identify the appropriate candidates to support.
4. Introducing a mentoring pathway for those who demonstrate interest in mission vocational careers.
5. Maturing our committee members spiritually, growing our understanding beyond our own finite horizons, and trusting God to elevate our heart for His Kingdom.
6. Ensuring that our missions’ budget aligns with our mission statement.
7. Engaging with Christian agencies that we can partner to help us better reach the lost.
8. Attending and participating with various Christian mission conferences that can help us further network with others and expand our opportunities.
9. Being good stewards of the resources God has provided us in people, finance and opportunities.
Please partner with us—a local family of God, desiring to please our Heavenly Father by joining us with your ideas and attending our meetings.
