When I was a kid, I didn’t have any religion. I believed that since I was smart, I could solve all problems. I attended a Christian high school, and that was my first time reading a Bible. At that time I treated it as a story and history book.
Later on, I came to the US to study and work. I realized that I need a family. I started praying to God to give me a family, even though I didn’t really believe in Him. Very soon I met my wife who was my sister’s good friend, and then we got married. I believe she is God’s gift. At that time, my mother was worshipping idols. Because my wife’s Christian faith, my mother was converted to Christianity and was baptized and became a devout Christian ever since.
When my wife was three-month pregnant, she experienced a near death incident when a car almost hit her on the freeway. God helped her steer from harm’s way. When our daughter Tiffany came to the world, we decided to search for a church to build our faith and to fellowship with others. We found this church online and God led out family to this church. My mother once recommended me a message from a pastor in which a question was raised, “Do you believe that there is the One who dictates everything in this world? And it is our Lord!” Upon hearing this acclimation, I echoed in my heart—“I believe” and immediately I felt renewed and full of hope.
I have been attending CGBC for more than a year now, and I’ve learned a lot from pastors’ sermons and lessons at Sunday school. I believe that there is indeed a God in the world, and Jesus Christ is the God. I decided to be baptized because I have the assurance of the relationship with God. On the baptism form that I filled out, there a question: Why do you want to get baptized? Without hesitation, I said that I wanted to let the world know that I have accepted Jesus Christ as my savior. Upon completing the thought, suddenly I experienced a peaceful and comfortable feeling. I believe God was with me at the time and it felt great!
Even though I am not a criminal in the eyes of the law, I am a sinner from birth. Any bad thoughts are also sinful. My sins have separated me from God. I am grateful that Jesus sacrificed Himself so that we are free of sins. When my mom learned about my baptism, she flew here from Hong Kong to be with me and my family to be my witness and share the joy. Praises to God for great things He has done in my life!
