I am from Guangdong Province, China. I used to be a teacher. I received an atheistic education, and I taught my students the same. It is hard to imagine that I would be baptized into God’s family today.
There was a Christian church close to my home where I grew up. My friends and I often slipped into its backyard to play. Occasionally I stood at the doorway to listen. They read the Bible and sang, but even though I did not understand anything they said, that church was a place that evoked my curiosity.
A little more than ten years later, I met a great teacher. It so happened that she was the daughter of the pastor who served in that church near my home. That made me very happy. She was my wonderful mentor and friend. Even though she later passed away, she remains in my heart. Later on, I became very good friends with a co-worker whose father was also a missionary in Guangzhou. When I looked back, I suddenly realized that God had placed His children in my life to be my good friends. “Is He calling me? ” I asked myself. Somehow He has led me to Him. God is really omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent.
After I came to the United States, I started going to church with my friends. In the beginning I was just curious and only wanted to find out more about the mystery of the church. However, over time, I have met brothers and sisters at church who trusted Jesus. They behave well and properly, are really sincere people, and they support and love each other. Some believers even gave up their high-paying jobs to become pastors or ministers. Some are like Jesus. They go to places far from their homes to preach the Gospel, to save the world and to save lost youth. All these have touched and captivated me. Surrounded by such a loving family, I gradually changed my mind. I started to seek Jesus and got closer to Him.
Early in June 2015, my son and I came to this church. After the worship service, Pastor Tim and a Mandarin deacon ate lunch with us. They were very kind and friendly. They spoke of God’s love, His power, and the miracles that happened to them. They even prayed for us. That was really refreshing and brought me closer to God.
For a long time, Mr. and Mrs. Qingsheng Huang enthusiastically gave me rides to come to this church. They have since moved to another city, but before they did, they connected me with another couple, Mr. and Mrs. Hsia, so that I could continue to come to this church to worship God. Of course, they are very loving too. I was able to take the Beginners’ Class at Sunday school led by Teacher George Kao. He patiently taught us important spiritual truths which have impacted my soul. I heard that Jesus was crucified for our sins on the cross and He resurrected three days later. I think it is about time to have my sins cleansed.
On March 6th this year, with the help of my teacher, I said a prayer to receive Jesus Christ into my heart as the Savior of my life. Thank God for giving me new life. I also want to thank our pastors and Pastor Lim’s wife for their care; Teacher Kao for his guidance; Mr. and Mrs. Hsia for all the rides they provided; and brothers and sisters like Albert, Shi-Ni, and many more for their love. They helped me to understand the truth in this verse: “For God had such love for the world that he gave his only Son, so that whoever has faith in him may not come to destruction but have eternal life.” (John 3:16).
I am willing to follow Jesus all my life: to love God, to love others, to obey and glorify Him.
