When I look at the stars and the moon in the sky, I am reminded of a prayer walk we did one evening in Ecuador. The stars were gorgeous that night. They reminded me of God’s promise to Abraham and the sheer might of His power. While on that prayer walk in Ecuador that summer night, a lady in our group called out to praise God saying, “Lord, one only has to look at the stars to know you are God. So let the people see and believe.” Her statement is so true. When we take a moment to look around and see what is in our lives, we come to realize how mighty God is and just how truly blessed we are.

Job 37:5-7 (NRSV) states that “God thunders wondrously with his voice; He does great things that we cannot comprehend. For to the snow He says, ‘Fall on the earth;’ and the shower of rain, His heavy shower of rain, serves as a sign on everyone’s hand, so that all whom He has made may know it.” It leaves me awestruck to know that my Heavenly Father created the sights I see, the ocean, the sky, the moon and the stars. Amos 4:13 (NLT) says that “the Lord is the one who shaped the mountains, stirs up the winds and reveals His thoughts to mankind. He turns the light of dawn into darkness and treads on the heights of the earth. The Lord God of Heaven’s Armies is his name!”

This leaves me humbled and breathless. If our God can create all those things, why do I need to be worried for the future? Like Matthew 6:25-34 states, we do not have to worry because He even takes care of the birds and plants. But we, his children, are so valuable to Him that He sent His only son to die for our sins. Surely God will take care of us because He not only loves us, but as 1 John 4:8 states, God is love itself. I need not worry because unlike me, God is capable of all things. Ephesians 3:20 (ESV) says that He “is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think.” And His ways, according to Psalm 18:30, are perfect.

God revealed to me on that starry night that He always provides for our needs and is constantly preparing us for the larger battles that seem unconquerable. Looking back at the journal entries during my time in Ecuador, I now recognize that God was preparing and teaching me that He is enough. And although the Christian life is not easy, Isaiah 41:10 (ESV) tells us to “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” He is always by my side, holding my hand, guiding and reminding me of the promises He has made and will continue to make. He has taught me that there is beauty in everything and in every moment in my life, even those painful and awkward ones that make no sense. They are all ultimately part of His plan and purpose. He has shown me that I no longer have to be a slave to my fears and insecurities because I am His beloved child. Because of this, I can live my faith boldly and fearlessly as a vessel for His glory.
